Our Statement of Support

The news of a mass unmarked grave of children is a disgraceful piece of Canada’s legacy, and as a nation, we must acknowledge the immeasurable trauma that has been forced upon Indigenous peoples since colonialization.

Together, we mourn and honour the 215 Indigenous children who were taken from their culture, their childhood, and their potential. We also stand with the families and communities of these children and the many, many more whose stories have not yet been told.

At the DI, we see the effects of inter-generational and cultural trauma imposed on Indigenous communities firsthand. It is our duty to care for each person who needs our services with the utmost respect and compassion. Though we are early on in our journey, the DI is deeply committed to seeking truth and reconciliation with the Indigenous population.
