Help End the Housing Crisis with the Click of a Button
August 24, 2023
Dear Community Members,
As you are likely aware, Calgary is in the middle of a major housing crisis that’s impacting thousands of vulnerable people in our city. At the DI, we see firsthand the devastating effects of a shortage of affordable housing. In numbers alone, we served 6,839 unique individuals last year – which is more than double the number we reported three years ago.
In response to the growing housing problem, local and national efforts to alleviate the impact of a lack of affordable housing are currently underway. For these initiatives to be successful, we must rally together and use our collective voices to motivate government into swift and meaningful action.
I want to take a moment to share a message with you from the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness’ President and CEO, Tim Richter, and encourage you to act.
I was invited to the federal cabinet retreat in Charlottetown and made the case for the National Housing Accord.
The reaction to our proposal has been very positive and I know we wouldn’t have been asked to speak to the government if they weren’t taking our recommendations seriously…
But we need to do more to build our momentum to make sure this positive reaction turns into real government policy that gets homes built and support to people in need.
The recent developments have been encouraging, but now is the time to commit all of our efforts and show the government that Canadians want this policy. The more people who send a message, the stronger the demonstration of public support will be.

Here’s how you can help…
I encourage you to consider sending a letter to your MP and the Prime Minister in support of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness campaign for the creation of 2 million new housing units, including over 600,000 units of affordable and deeply affordable housing.
It is as easy as clicking the button below.
Together, we can make our voices heard to make a difference.
With Kindness,
Sandra Clarkson
Executive Director, Calgary Drop-In Centre
