Bundling Up for Good: Join Our Winter Donation Drive
September 23, 2024
Despite the forecast for the week ahead, winter is coming and here at the DI we’re preparing for a busy season ahead. As temperatures drop, we will start to see more people coming through our doors seeking warmth, shelter, meals and other supports. The plummeting temperatures pose a significant threat to the health and safety of individuals experiencing homelessness. And, every year, we work with our many partners to ensure all Calgarians are prepared for the cold weather.
That’s where you come in. We are kindly asking for donations of clothing, supplies and hygiene products for those we serve here at the DI, and for the 140 agencies and outreach groups we help supply.
We are in greatest need of:
- Winter coats: New and gently used, particularly for men
- Gloves, mitts and hand warmers: To protect against freezing temperatures
- Winter footwear: To provide traction and warmth
- Toques: A staple for keeping heads warm during frigid days
- Socks: Warm, moisture-wicking socks to protect feet from the cold
- Long underwear: Cozy under layers to help folks retain body heat
- Underwear: For men and women
- Thinner blankets: Ideal for layering to maximize comfort
- Reusable water bottles and coffee mugs: For those on the go
- Chap stick: To help avoid cracked lips in the cold
- Hand lotion: To combat dry skin in winter
- Combs: A small but important item
- Deodorant: Personal hygiene items are critical for maintaining health and dignity
- Tissue, small packs: Most important during cold and flu season
- Tim Hortons gift cards: A warm drink or snack on a cold day
If you can contribute, please drop off your donations at our Donation Centre, located at 3640 11a Street NE. Thank you for your compassion and support.
