September Marks National Recovery Awareness Month
September 23, 2026
Recovery is not a destination. It is a journey shaped by connection, support, hope and the people who walk alongside us.
This National Recovery Awareness Month, we are proud to recognize the incredible work happening across the Calgary Drop-In Centre every day to support people on their recovery journeys.
Recently, our Mental Health & Addiction Navigators, Kelsey and Mikaela, brought that spirit of connection to the Recovery Alberta Day Street Festival. They welcomed visitors, shared information about DI services and represented the DI with so much enthusiasm and heart.
They were also joined by a very special team member and crowd favourite, Tougi the dog, who quickly became the unofficial DI mascot and brought plenty of smiles throughout the day.
Guests participating in our Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) program also joined staff at the festival, enjoying the activities, entertainment and opportunities to connect with the broader recovery community.
It was a wonderful reminder that recovery does not happen in isolation. It happens through relationships, community and having people there to support you along the way.
This month, we celebrate recovery, recognize progress and honour the people and programs helping create pathways forward every day.
Our Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC) provides a pathway to recovery for people navigating substance use and homelessness.
Through Withdrawal Management and Recovery Transition, guests receive individualized support focused on safety, dignity, recovery goals, coping skills, housing and connection to ongoing treatment and community supports. The goal is to meet people where they are and help them take the next step in their recovery journey.
