2020 Charity Challenge

The Calgary Drop-In Centre (the DI) is thrilled to once again partner with the Calgary Corporate Challenge (CCC) as one of the ten partner charities in the 2020 Charity Challenge!

The 2020 Charity Challenge is the optional change to gain some valuable points leading up to the CCC September Games while making a worthwhile community investment in Calgary. After all, as we like to say at the DI, it takes community to build community.

Option #1 – Share the Street

Invite a team of 8+ to take the DI’s Share the Street workshop and learn more about engaging vulnerable people at our 90-minute workshop. This workshop will be held at our Donation Centre (3640 11a Street NE) and will have availability between March 1 and August 31. There are limited spots available, so take advantage of the CCC-discounted fee of $250 before it’s too late.

Option #2 – Off-Season Trivia Event

The CCC and the DI are teaming up this August to put on an off-season trivia event that is open to all! Full details – including how to register – will be available later in 2020, closer to August.

Give Goods

Fill-A-Backpack

Prepare ten backpacks of essentials that we can give to low-income Calgarians as they regain housing independence. Donate adult-sized backpacks (new or gently used) filled with the following:

(1) towel
(3) pairs of new men’s and women’s briefs
(1) toothbrush with travel-size toothpaste
(1) bottle of Acetaminophen/Ibuprofen
(2-3) disposable razors
(3) pairs of socks
(1) deodorant

Feel free to add some optional add-ons, like $10 Tim’s cards or other high need items.

Give Back

Option #1 – Volunteer at the Donation Centre

Volunteer as a team sorting donations between March 1 and August 31 (pending availability). See firsthand how any kind of donation can find a new home, tour the facility, and learn more about our Free Goods and Move Out Programs.

This option is great for groups of 10-50 people.

Option #2: Serve a Meal

Come down to the main shelter and serve breakfast, lunch, or dinner with your colleagues between March 1 and August 31. This opportunity is great for groups of 2-15.

Want to increase your impact? Host a donation drive in advance to collect high need items.

Give Funds

Support Food Security

Donate $500 to ensure vulnerable Calgarians have access to fresh food! As a team, raise funds to help support the three meals a day served at the DI.

Give More

Help Move Someone Into a Home

Donate $2,000 to provide funding for a client facing a small but burdensome financial barrier to accessing their own housing. This $2,000 will support someone in crisis who has no means to pay their security deposit, moving cost, first month’s rent, or other moving fees.
